DOGS DONT FEEL SORRY FOR OTHER DOGS:
You are about to watch 2 clips taken today. Both of a deaf Australian Cattle Dog (ACD) and my dog Sammie.
The first clip Abbey the ACD panics when Sammie gets to close to her and reacts in an aggressive manner. You see Sammie move away but then Abbey goes to far. Sammie instantly puts her in her place. The second clip is of the same dogs running around together relaxed and you see Abbey following Sammie.
The point to this is Sammie did not care that Abbey was nervous, she did not care that Abbey was deaf, Abbey went to far acted aggressively and got disciplined as a result. Because Sammie was to the point, fast, firm and fair, Abbey gets the message and quickly relaxes and follows Sammie.
We as humans sometimes get to emotional when we see nervous dogs, or dogs with disabilities and as a result we feel sorry for them or we are afraid to discipline them if they do something wrong in fear it will make them worse.
Sadly this mentality often makes the dog worse and dangerous.
Deaf dogs, nervous dogs hell any dog that is unstable needs discipline. Done correctly it actually helps a dog and does not make them worse.
We can't help any dog if we are worried or feeling sorry for them.
Side note: this is about 30 minutes into the session, before this and after this moment the dogs had been fine with one and other. This was just a moment of panic from the ACD that was dealt with quickly.
